National Care Home Open Day – 21 April 2018

PWH participated in National Care Home Open Day on Saturday 21st April. The theme was linking communities. The courtyard was filled with colour as many staff adorned cultural clothing. The sun shone and it was great to see so many residents, staff, family and friends enjoying each other’s company.

The afternoon began with a delicious BBQ accompanied by music from a steel pan band duet creating a wonderful atmosphere. The entertainment continued with pop and folk songs from Pete Morten. Pete engaged beautifully with our residents and visitors ensuring everyone felt part of the day.

We were delighted that His Worshipful the Mayor of Haringey Cllr. Stephen Mann was able to attend accompanied by his wife Cllr. Jennifer Mann the Mayoress of Haringey and our residents, staff and guests were very happy to meet them.

Thank you to the representatives from the British Transport Police who visited and spent time chatting with our residents and visitors.

Pastor Omideyi and members of the Canaan Church community sang a range of uplifting songs encouraging everyone to get involved, sing along and enjoy.

We took this opportunity to display the film that was made through our collaboration with Alexandra Palace Learning & Participation Team and pupils from Duke Aldridge Academy “TV memories: It’s your Story”.

The students worked alongside a film maker to create a short film, using photos and voice recordings interwoven with footage from the BBC corresponding with the memories shared.

Residents and visitors really enjoyed the film and those who contributed were thrilled with the end product.

Our Tombola was a success raising money for our residents fund and everyone was thrilled with the great prizes on offer. We would like to extend a big thank you to TESCO, WILKO, ARGOS, BOOTS, the College of Haringey, Enfield & North East London, B&Q, Sea Café, Fresh & Fruity, Dickens Café and PWH Shop for their kind donations.

To close the day our chef presented the celebratory cake to share.

We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the success of the day especially our kitchen team who excelled themselves once again.
